Small, handmade cupboards like this one, sometimes called jelly cupboards, have been used throughout history for all manner of storage (not just the strawberry preserves). Cupboards like these can be used in the kitchen or pantry, in a bath or powder room, as a bedside table, or in the living room as a side table. The uses for this quintessential vernacular furniture form are virtually endless. This particular cupboard is made of white pine with a white oak top, knobs, and latch. The base of the cupboard is painted with a barn red milk paint and sealed with a traditional linseed oil varnish blend. The oak top, knobs and latch are finished only with the varnish blend.
